AE 3 Slot Payphone

Pictured is the iconic three slot payphone used in the States for the greater half of the past century. Designed in the early 1900’s, this rugged design could be seen on at every street corner till the 70s. Instead of using electrical identification of payment, payphones used a sound identification system. When coins were deposited, they hit bells that corresponded with denomination. These distinct sounds were then heard by the operator which connected the call.
