Western Electric 1500 Telephone

    • Western Electric 1500
    • 1963-1968
    • Plastic case and handset, metal base
The first production touch tone push button telephone. The shape of the 500 was slightly modified with a flatter face to frame the buttons. Unlike modern push buttons, only 10 buttons are present, the # and * key had yet to be invented. Touch tone was a huge improvement over rotary dialing providing faster and more accurate dialing. Touch tone, was however, more expensive and rotary dial telephones remained in large production.
