  • This wall subscriber set was Western Electrics basic wall unit. The housing is actually a ringer box adapted with a dial, transmitter, and hookswitch. They commonly have 4H or 5H dials.

    Transmitters on 653s are usually bulldog transmitters. Bulldog transmitters were invented as a stronger alternative older solid backed transmitters with fragile spit cups.
